Volunteering

Able foundation aims to offer our service users the highest quality of service in a supportive atmosphere which is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We believe this is best achieved by a multi-disciplinary approach where different professional and non-professional carers work together for common goals. For this reason the input of the volunteers at Able Foundation is considered invaluable.
Our Volunteers work as extended members of our team, and come from a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from students to people who have retired. The one thing all of our volunteers have in common is that they give their time and enthusiasm freely to take on a role that they know makes a huge difference, to the lives of adults with learning disabilities.
We ask our volunteer to give a minimum of one session per week (normally three hours) on a regular and flexi basis. We provide induction training for new volunteers, as well as regular refresher training (including fire training and moving and handling sessions). We hold quarterly volunteer meetings, which serve as a support network as well as offering regular opportunities for volunteers to share their experiences ideas and suggestions. As a volunteer you could also benefit from:

  • bridging a gap between long-term unemployment and re-employment.
  • regaining confidence
  • learning new skills
  • gaining a valuable addition to your CV and an additional reference

We offer volunteer opportunities in these areas:

  • therapeutic horticulture
  • Arts and crafts
  • Sport
  • Drama
  • Minibus driving
  • Computer skills
  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Catering
  • Carpentry
  • Job coach
  • Estate management / DIY
